Abstract
Bir yapıtı oluşturan değerleri görmek, aklın estetik boyutta bir etkinliğidir. İçinde yaşanılan kültür ortamıyla kazanılan bu kolektif deneyim, kendi kendine gerçekleşemeyeceği gibi, sanat yapıtını eleştirel bir gözle incelemek, bir anlamda simgeleri estetik anlamda okumanın tarih boyunca şekillenen pek çok yöntemi olmuştur. Tarihsel bir araştırma yapıldığında, sanatın farklı boyutlarına yönelik fikirler edinilen inceleme ve eleştirilere, birçok yöntem ile yaklaşılabildiği görülmektedir. Toplumun ortak bir ürünü olan sanat yapıtını gerçekleştirildiği dönemin koşullarına göre doğru analiz etmek ve onu doğru konumlandırmak gerekmektedir. Her imge ya da nesne kültürel bir üründür ve toplumsal boyutta onu okuma çabasında olana söyleyeceği ya da söyleteceği bir şey vardır. Görsel sanat yapıtı, yazınsal söylem gibi okunarak analiz edilebilir. Sanat tarihi boyunca, “imgenin semiyotik zengin söylemi” farklı görüşler ile ele alınmıştır. Sözcük ve imge arasındaki bu bağlantı, Batı’nın kültürel geleneklerine derinlemesine kök salmış ve görsel sanat yapıtına dair birçok geleneksel yorumu şekillendirmiştir. Bu makale çalışması, görsel sanat dünyasından farklı dönemlerden örnekler beraberinde, sanat yapıtını okumak üzerine geliştirilen kuramları ve yorumlarını içermektedir. Çalışma, temsili yorum geleneğinden başlayarak, ikonografik anlamdan ikonolojik yoruma geçişi ve modern dönemden günümüze etki eden göstergebilim kuramını kapsar.

Abstract
Seeing the values that make up a work is an aesthetic activity of the mind. This collective experience, gained through the cultural environment in which one lives, cannot be realized on its own, and there have been many methods that have been shaped throughout history to examine the work of art with a critical eye, in a sense, to read the symbols in an aesthetic sense. When a historical research is done, it is seen that the examination and criticism, which has ideas about different dimensions of art, can be approached with many methods. It is necessary to analyze the work of art, which is a common product of the society, according to the conditions of the period in which it was realized, and to position it correctly. Every image or object is a cultural product, and it has something to say or have it say to those who try to read it in the social dimension. Visual artwork can be analyzed by reading it like literary discourse. Throughout the history of art, “the semiotic rich discourse of the image” has been handled with different views. This connection between word and image is deeply rooted in Western cultural traditions and has shaped many traditional interpretations of visual art. This article study includes the theories and interpretations developed on reading the work of art, along with examples from different periods from the world of visual art. The study covers the transition from the iconographic meaning to the iconological interpretation, starting from the tradition of representational interpretation, and the theory of semiotics, which has been influential from the modern period to the present.
