Abstract

Abstract

In today's societies, cities that interact with various external factors as a result of globalization have lost their own identity over time and have begun to resemble each other in many respects, especially the architectural texture of the region and the cultural characteristics of the local people. Some alternative models and concepts have been started to be discussed and implemented in order to ensure sustainability against the negative consequences that this similarity may bring in the tourism sector. Among the accepted models in these discussions is the 'Slow City' model, which is a sustainable city network that is compatible with environmental policies and improves the quality of life. However, it is not possible for the alternative tourism approach, which is preferred for the differentiation of the touristic destination, to be successful without the positive perception and support of the local people. In this context, the aim of the study is to examine how the local people living in Eğirdir district of Isparta perceive the "slow city" phenomenon, their support forms and their thoughts on its economic dimension. The research was designed as descriptive and 150 valid questionnaires were evaluated as a result of the examination of the local face-to-face questionnaires in Eğirdir. The collected data were classified and evaluated by applying Chi-square, independent sample t-Test and Anova methods for One-way Analysis of variance in descriptive statistics, frequencies and cross tables. The results of the research show that the local people in Eğirdir generally perceive and support the slow city concept positively. This research is valuable in that it sets an example for other touristic destinations and future studies by emphasizing the importance of examining the slow city perception of the local people.
