Abstract
Binlerce yıldır insanların temel kullanım alanlarını oluşturan ve bir tekstil ürünü olan ip, günümüzde de birçok sanatçının sıklıkla kullandığı malzemelerden biridir. Bilimsel-teknolojik yeniliklerin odağında olan sanat pratiklerinin dilinin değişmesi ve dönüşmesi ile eserlerinde ip kullanan sanatçıların ifade alanı da genişlemiştir. Günümüz sanat anlayışının da aynı paralellikte olması gerçeğiyle ip kullanan sanatçılar malzemenin geçmişini ve kültürel yapısını da bağlam içine aldıkları özgün eserler ortaya koymaktadırlar. Bu çalışmada, bağlama sorunsalı üzerine alternatif bir malzeme olarak ipi kullanan Janet Echelman, Fırat Neziroğlu, Machiko Agano, Sandra de Groot, Chiharu Shiota, Tomas Saraceno, Zeliha Kayahan ve Naile Çevik’in sanatsal üretimlerine odaklanılmıştır. Ayrıca günümüz sanatında ve sanatçı üretimlerinde ipin aldığı farklı anlamlar aracılığı ile çağdaş sanata bakabilmek ve bu kullanım nesnesinin sanata yansımasında yarattığı anlamlar incelenmiştir.

Abstract
Rope, which has been a textile product and has been the main usage areas of people for thousands of years, is one of the materials frequently used by many artists today. With the change and transformation of the language of art practices, which are at the center of scientific-technological innovations, the expression area of the artists who use rope in their works has expanded. With the fact that today's understanding of art is in the same parallelism, the artists using rope create original works in which they take the history and cultural structure of the material into context. In this study, the artistic productions of Janet Echelman, Fırat Neziroğlu, Machiko Agano, Sandra de Groot, Chiharu Shiota, Tomas Saraceno, Zeliha Kayahan and Naile Çevik In addition, looking at contemporary art through the different meanings that thread takes in today's art and artist productions and the meanings created by this object of use in its reflection on art have been examined.
