Abstract
Bu çalışma Ortaokul 5. Sınıf Fen Bilimleri dersi Işık Ünitesinde öğretmene mektup yazmanın öğrencilerin akademik başarı ve derse yönelik tutumlarını nasıl etkilediğini belirlemek için yapılmıştır. Çalışmanın örneklemini, devlete bağlı bir ortaokulun 2017 / 2018 eğitim - öğretim yılında 5 / A - B şubelerinde öğrenim gören 36 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Çalışmada deney grubu olarak 5 / B şubesi, kontrol grubu olarak da 5 / A şubesi kura ile seçilmiştir. Uygulamaya başlamadan önce 3 şubeye yapılan seviye testi öğrencilerin başarı bakımından anlamlı farklarının olup olmadığını belirlemek bakımından yapılmış ve 5 / A - B sınıflarında anlamlı fark olmadığı görülmüştür. Çalışmada deney grubu öğrencilerine Fen Bilimleri dersi Işık Ünitesi boyunca konu bitişlerinde öğretmene mektup yazma etkinliği yaptırılmıştır. Çalışmada; deney ve kontrol grubu öğrencilerine 5. Sınıf Işık Ünitesi ile ilgili hazırlanan test, ön test ve son test olarak uygulanmıştır. Öğrencilerin bu çalışma ile ilgili görüşlerini almak için anket tarama formu kullanılmıştır. Çalışmanın sonucunda SPSS paket programı kullanılmıştır. Çalışmanın sonucunda elde edilen veriler “Mektup Yazma Etkinliği” nin öğrencilerin akademik başarılarını attırdığını, anket tarama formu sonuçlarına göre de deney grubu öğrencilerinin tutumlarını olumlu yönde değiştirdiğini göstermiştir.

ABSTRACT This study was conducted to determine the effect of writing a letter to the teacher on the academic achievement of students and their opinions about the course in the 5th grade Science Course of the Diffusion of Light / Physical Events Unit. At the end of the study, a survey was used to determine student views in the study conducted with 36 students by creating an experimental and control group. The results revealed that the "Letter Writing Activity" increases the academic success of students. In addition, according to the results of the survey conducted at the end of the application, it was concluded that the "Letter Writing Activity" had a positive effect on the opinions of the students in the experimental group.
