Globalization serves as a driving force for developing countries to integrate into advanced economies while simultaneously posing a significant challenge by exacerbating income inequality. However, globalization is also known to positively influence economic complexity levels, which in turn contributes to reducing gender inequality a critical factor in mitigating income inequality indirectly. Income inequality, situated within a paradoxical interaction, deeply penetrates the economic, political, and social institutions of countries, and its multifaceted relationship with globalization remains a subject of extensive debate in the literature. Within this framework, the present study explores the intricate relationships between income inequality, globalization, gender inequality, and economic complexity, focusing on BRICST (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, and Türkiye) countries. Using data from 2010 to 2023, the causal relationships among these variables were analysed through the Kónya Bootstrap Panel Causality Test. The analysis reveals that globalization significantly impacts income inequality in Brazil, China, South Africa, and Türkiye. Gender inequality emerges as a Granger cause of income inequality in Brazil and South Africa, while economic complexity significantly influences income inequality in Brazil, China, and Türkiye. Conversely, no significant causal effects were found for globalization and gender inequality on income inequality in India and Russia. Similarly, gender inequality does not significantly impact income inequality in China and Türkiye, nor does economic complexity in South Africa and Russia. These findings highlight the diverse ways in which globalization, gender inequality, and economic complexity influence income inequality across countries. The study's findings reveal that the causal relationship between globalization, gender inequality, economic complexity indicators, and income inequality has different dimensions. Therefore, according to the study results, policies to reduce income inequality should be formulated in line with national needs, considering economic, cultural, and sociological differences.

Mieko Kawakami's “Breasts and Eggs” explores the construction of female identity and the processes of othering from a multifaceted perspective. The novel examines themes such as gender roles, body perception, motherhood, and the pursuit of individual freedom, all of which are closely tied to the patriarchal structure of Japanese society. Societal pressures on the female body, beauty standards, and the concept of motherhood are particularly emphasized throughout the narrative. This study aims to analyze the impact of social norms on female identity through the novel’s characters and to investigate the influence of the patriarchal system on women’s bodies, identities, and lives. Literature serves not only as a reflection of individual experiences but also as a medium that questions, critiques, and sometimes transforms societal structures and ideologies. As members of society, writers inevitably engage with traditions, cultural values, and sociopolitical developments in their works. The social construction and marginalization of female identity have thus become central subjects of literary analysis within a sociological framework. Kawakami’s novel offers a multidimensional portrayal of the pressures exerted by gender norms on individual identity, the tension between modernization and traditional values, and the mechanisms through which the patriarchal structure shapes female identity. In this context, this study employs a sociological critique to examine the dynamics between female identity, shaped by the cultural codes of Japanese society, and the practices of othering that compel women to conform to social norms.
