Abstract


THE OPINIONS OF EDUCATORS ON THE CHANGE OF THE REPUTATION OF THE TEACHING PROFESSION OVER TIME

The aim of this study is to reveal the views of educators about the change in the reputation of the teaching profession over time. For this purpose, the research was conducted with classroom teachers working in schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education. The study group of the research was determined by simulated sampling technique, which is one of the purposeful sampling method. The study group of the research consists of 8 teachers who work as primary school teachers in the Central district of Amasya in the 2019-2020 academic year. This research was carried out using phenomenological design within the framework of qualitative research approach. Researchers used semi-structured interview form technique to collect data. The obtained data were analyzed with a descriptive analysis approach. Teachers participating in the study, as the reasons for the decline in the reputation of the teaching profession over time; Some administrators in the previous period stated that students were given more than necessary authority, parents were given too much authority, the society's perspective on the teaching profession, teachers' salaries were low, teachers who could not be appointed and the education community could not be united. Participants made some suggestions to increase the reputation of the teaching profession, such as empowering teachers against students and parents, sanctions in case of violence, enactment of a teaching profession law, negative programs in the media, the spiritual dimension of the teaching profession, and successful students preferring the teaching profession. successful students preferring the teaching profession.
